Conciliation of informal caregiving and work

The measures of the Quebec Labour Standards Act – Intended for all informal caregivers

  • 2 paid days for informal caregiver leave
  • 8 paid days for informal caregiver leave
  • Absence without pay: up to 16 weeks for a seriously ill or injured adult, 35 weeks for a child.
  • Absence without pay: up to 27 weeks for an adult at the end of life, 104 weeks for a minor child.
  • 5 days of absence, 2 of which are paid for in case of the death of a close family member
  • 1 day, without pay, by reason of the death of an extended family member
  • 104 weeks, without pay, by reason of the death of a minor child
Employment Insurance Benefit for Caregivers
  • In case of illness and serious accident requiring the presence of a informal caregiver
  • 55% of the salary up to $573 per week for:
    15 weeks for an adult severely ill or injured
    35 weeks for a minor child
Compassionate Care Benefit for Caregivers
  • At the end of the life of the person being cared for 55% of the salary up to $573 per week
  • Up to 26 weeks maximum
  • Can be shared among several informal caregivers

To be eligible

Have 600 hours of employment over 52 weeks

Requires a medical certificate (see list of authorized professionals)

People whom the person they care for is outside of Canada
